Vivix™… the Patent-Pending Resveratrol Anti-Aging Supplement from Shaklee delivers 100 mg of resveratrol per serving (1 teaspoon). The resveratrol extract has a natural resveratrol content of 98%, and the amount of resveratrol in Vivix™ is guided by the latest scientific studies and emerging research. Vivix goes beyond resveratrol by combining it with a patent-pending blend of additional polyphenols made from the only grape in nature with an extra chromosome.
Laboratory studies have found that this unique combination is able to positively impact the four key mechanisms of cellular aging and is 10 times more effective than resveratrol in slowing AGE protein formation.*
Vivix is also an Antioxidant:
Vivix™ has polyphenol ingredients that have been shown in laboratory studies to positively impact the four key mechanisms of cellular aging and therefore goes well beyond providing antioxidant support.*

And how much resveratrol do those foods contain?
Resveratrol is commonly found in red grapes, berries, some nuts and the roots of Japanese knotweed.
Because of the fermentation process that red grapes go through to make red wine, resveratrol is also found in red wine, this is why it is recommended to drink a glass of wine a day, since resveratrol has antioxidant properties.
Red wine contains between 0.2 and 5.8 mg/L of resveratrol, but this amount varies depending on the grape variety. The source lists exact charts of resveratrol content.
To truly see the beneficial effects of resveratrol you can acquire it as a dietary supplement, which would have about 150mg of pure trans-resveratrol per dosage.

A comparison of Vivix to other Resveratrol products
by Dr. Steven Chaney
*********************************
There is Vivix… and then there are others.
This week I’m addressing why Vivix is different from other
resveratrol products on the market. So, let’s get right to
it…
Q: Everyone seems to have a resveratrol product nowadays.
Why is Vivix better than all those resveratrol products on
the market?
A: The answer to that question is really three-fold.
In the first place, the resveratrol in Shaklee’s Vivix is
a higher potency, higher purity preparation than many of
the other resveratrol products on the market.
Dr. David Sinclair’s studies were a shock to many
scientists in the resveratrol community. He showed
convincingly that the amounts of resveratrol one needs to
have a substantial beneficial effect were orders of
magnitude greater than anyone expected. Clearly, one or
two glasses of red wine per day won’t do the trick.
Similarly, many of the older resveratrol products on the
market just aren’t potent enough to be of any significant
benefit.
For those resveratrol products that are potent enough,
many aren’t pure enough. There is a naturally occurring
contaminant in impure resveratrol preparations that has a
laxative effect. Unless the resveratrol preparation is 99%
pure or better, many people will find that the side
effects outweigh beneficial effects.
But the most important reason is that resveratrol cannot
do it all. It is just one of many naturally occurring
polyphenols, which is why Shaklee added a polyphenol blend
from muscadine grapes to their purified resveratrol.
For example, Shaklee’s polyphenol blend is high in ellagic
acid, which is not found in significant amounts in red
wine or most resveratrol preparations.
Ellagic acid inhibits an enzyme that is involved in the
formation of advanced glycation end products (AGE
proteins), one of the central four mechanisms of cellular
aging. Resveratrol has no effect on this enzyme, but does
block the other three key mechanisms of cellular aging.
Similarly, animal studies suggest that ellagic acid shines
in preventing gastrointestinal cancers, while resveratrol
and other components of the polyphenol blend that Shaklee
uses prevent a variety of other tumors.
The bottom line is that by adding a polyphenol blend
containing ellagic acid and other protective polyphenols
from the muscadine grape to their ultrapure, ultrapotent
resveratrol, Shaklee has developed a product that is
clearly superior to either resveratrol or a muscadine
polyphenol blend alone.
This is not a “one plus one” addition, but a synergistic
combination of protective polyphenols that is far more
protective than any one of them alone.
To your health, Dr. Stephen Chaney
P.S. If you’d like to learn more about the health benefits
of ellagic acid and other polyphenols in muscadine grapes,
I recommend a book called Muscadine Medicine by Drs. Diane
K. Hartle, Phillip Greenspan and James L. Hargrove of the
University of Georgia.

Does green tea lower blood pressure, cholesterol levels or blood sugar levels? Are there other health benefits associated with the beverage? Here’s a look at what we know.
From observing Japanese smokers, we know that those who drank a liter or more of green tea per day had a lower than expected incidence of heart disease, stomach cancer and throat cancer. Overall, there is a lower than expected incidence of heart disease among Japanese people. However, other dietary factors could contribute to that.
Foods
Most health experts now agree that chronic inflammation plays a role in heart disease, cancer and many other diseases that were simply thought to accompany the aging process. It turns out that the Western diet is high in inflammatory foods, including omega6 fats, white flour and corn. The Asian diet is rich in anti-inflammatory foods, including fish and vegetables. Just as a side note, the world’s oldest living man, at the of this writing, is from Japan and he says that his favorite foods are vegetables.
What can we do to prevent chronic inflammation, without giving up our favorite foods? Experts suggest that you eat those favorite foods, whatever they may be, in moderation, but try adding more anti-inflammatory foods to our diets. But, regardless of how healthy your diet is, you cannot possibly get all of the benefits from the known anti-inflammatory plant components, without supplementation.
Green Tea
Green tea contains phytochemicals known as catechins. These catechins have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant activity. Oxidative stress is one of the other factors involved in heart disease, cancer and DNA degeneration. DNA degeneration is the ultimate cause of cell aging. If the degeneration is allowed to continue, the cell will die.
Resveratrol
One of the phytochemicals, which is just a fancy way of saying compounds found in plants, that we know about is called resveratrol. It is found in a different beverage and is believed to be the element that explains why the French can eat a diet that is high in fat, without having a high incidence of heart disease. The beverage that contains resveratrol is red wine. Resveratrol helps to prevent DNA degeneration, suppresses cell signaling that would cause the death of healthy cells and is believed to help prevent cancer, as does green tea extract.
In the US, the FDA has approved health claims made by supplements concerning the prevention of breast and prostate cancer; although they determined that there was not enough evidence to support other claims. I say, why not cover all of your bases. We know that none of these plant compounds are bad for us. So, why not get all of the help that we can.
But, the initial questions were; does green tea lower blood pressure, cholesterol or blood sugar levels?
• Blood pressure, no, but losing weight can help lower blood pressure and catechins support weight loss
• Cholesterol, yes
• Blood sugar levels, no, but catechins do promote the cells’ sensitivity to insulin, which is decreased in people with high blood sugar levels
If you’re going to take a supplement, get the most that you can for your money. The body needs a number of nutrients every day and most of us don’t get enough of them.

Green tea benefits the heart, the circulatory system, the brain, the metabolism, the digestive system and, because of its antioxidant content, all of the cells of the body. Are green tea health benefits overstated? In some cases, the answer is “yes”.
Green tea benefits were first examined because of something called the “Japanese paradox”. It’s a little like the French paradox. Most health experts believe that people who consume large amounts of dietary fat and/or smoke cigarettes are more likely to develop heart disease and cancer. But the incidence of heart disease is low in the French, even though the traditional diet is high in fat. The incidence of heart disease, as well as stomach and throat cancer is low in the Japanese, even among smokers.
After several studies, researchers stated that one of the possible green tea health benefits was a reduced risk of stomach and throat cancer, primarily because the study participants drank a liter or more of green tea every day. After studying French populations, researchers found an antioxidant in red wine called resveratrol. They said that the antioxidant may reduce the risk of heart disease, among other things.
If we combine green tea health benefits with those of resveratrol, we might be able to lengthen our life-spans. Researchers arrived at this conclusion after feeding resveratrol to fish that normally lived for only nine weeks. After dosing a group of the fish with resveratrol, they lived an average of 56% longer than the group that did not receive the supplement. Of course, whether it has the same effect on humans remains to be seen.
If you really want to lengthen your lifespan, you need more than antioxidants. They are a good place to start, because they fight free radical damage, but they do nothing to counter glycation, a complex process caused by sugar molecules binding to protein within the human body. This binding causes a cascade of reactions that lead to the formation of advance glycation end-products or AGEs. The term AGE is appropriate, because these molecules have been implicated in Alzheimer’s, type II diabetes, heart disease, deafness, blindness, cancer and other “age” related diseases.
The green tea benefits cannot prevent glycation, but L-carnosine supplements can. If we combine the green tea health benefits with those of resveratrol and carnosine, we may actually get somewhere in preventing chronic diseases and extending our lives. But, you won’t find supplements that contain all three of these things on your pharmacy’s shelves. You might not even be able to get the green tea benefits, as they are promised.
We have to find a good manufacturer that knows what it takes to make an effective supplement. The long-term green tea health benefits may never be seen, so it’s difficult to know if a supplement of that type is working.
But, if you buy the best supplement, there are some changes that will be noticeable, almost immediately. Now that you know a little more about the green tea benefits, you might want to learn more about the best supplements on the market, today. If you have a few minutes to spare, please take a look at my website now.

Although it has been used for other things since ancient times, the idea of taking turmeric for cancer prevention is new. Like resveratrol, green tea and other supplements, turmeric is growing in popularity among people that want to reduce their risk of this disease. But, there’s something that many people are unaware of.
In order to provide the chemo-preventative benefits, the supplements must be able to get into the blood stream. Green tea catechins seem to have no problem passing swiftly along into the blood, but resveratrol and turmeric’s active component (curcumin) do.
Resveratrol is an antioxidant that is present in the skins of red grapes and red wine, but researchers have shown that drinking wine or taking an uncoated supplement does not increase the amount of resveratrol in the bloodstream. They have found the same thing with curcumin.
If you wanted to take resveratrol or turmeric for cancer prevention, the supplement that you choose must include an enteric coating to protect the nutrients from stomach acid. Both of the compounds are quickly changed into inactive substances that the body does not recognize, if they are allowed to interact with stomach acid.
Researchers commonly refer to this phenomenon as low bioavailability. There are some common vitamins and minerals that face the same problem.
You have to think of it this way. The human body was designed to break down foodstuff into its component parts. Because of that, stomach acid is very strong. The body was not designed to accept individual nutrients. If foods provided a single nutrient, there would be no need for gastric acids.
Our technology has taken us to the point where we realize the importance of individual nutrients, but the body has not changed. So, if you want to take resveratrol or turmeric for cancer prevention, you need to be sure that the manufacturer protects those nutrients from gastric acids. Otherwise, you are just wasting your money.
The benefit of turmeric for cancer prevention is this. In the bloodstream, it finds and attacks cancer cells. It kills them, without damaging healthy cells. The benefits of resveratrol for this purpose are several. It prevents the formation of a cancer cell. It prevents the growth of tumors. It stimulates cellular DNA to protect itself and it causes the death of a cancerous growth.
Most health experts recommend that you include a variety of beneficial plants in your daily diet. But, it is very difficult to include them all on a daily basis. Our lives are busy and our need for convenience foods limits us. With the right multi-nutritional supplement, we can get all of the benefits of a diet full of plant foods, without giving up the convenience that most of us need.
Food is sustenance, but it also contains compounds that reduce our risk of numerous life threatening and degenerative diseases. If our diets were perfect, we would have lower risks of heart disease, high blood pressure, blindness and many other health problems. Taking turmeric for cancer prevention is only the first step. There is more that you can do.
